35mm slides

SLIDES FROM JPEG (.jpg) FILES

To make 4K resolution 35mm slides from digital JPEG files (.jpg), you should have images which are no larger than 4096 pixels wide by 2731 pixels high, as larger .jpg files will contribute nothing to the sharpness of the image on 35mm slide film. If you have a choice when saving your .jpg file, choose a .jpg file with the least compression for the best image at any size, as .jpg files are lossy and discard information to make the file size smaller. Images which have a different shape than 4096 x 2731 (3x2) will be centered on a black background so that none of your image is hidden by the 35mm slide mount. 4096 x 2731 pixel files are about 9 x 13.5 inches at 300 dpi. Jpeg files from 3 or 4 MP digital cameras will make excellent slides.

We also produce 8K 35mm slides from professional level digital cameras for the highest quality.

A .jpg file as small as 640 pixels by 480 pixels may give you an acceptable 35mm slide depending on your subject matter, but larger files will always produce better slides than smaller files. We do not charge you a higher price to work from a larger file as some of our competitors do. Do not start with a small digital image and use software such as Photoshop or PhotoPaint to simply enlarge it (retouching it is OK). However, smaller .jpg files transmit much faster over the internet, and our software will automatically enlarge the image to fill the slide mount without cropping your image. You may send either vertical or horizontal images (either portrait or landscape). Files must be RGB (the default for digital cameras). We also produce slides from Tiff and Targa files.

Photographic Specialties is no longer producing slides and transparencies. I have been self-employed for 35 years, but looking forward to retirement since my wife died five years ago. With the decline of conventional photography and the recent recession, the availability of film and chemicals as well as the volume of work has declined to such an extent that it is no longer possible to have fresh chemicals to develop film. I hope that if you still need conventional slides and transparencies, you will be able to find someone who can produce them for you. Thank you for your orders over the years.
