SLIDES FROM COREL DRAW

PhotoGraphic Specialties has been chosen by Corel Corporation as a Corel Approved Service Bureau on the basis of our ability to output high-quality 35mm slides and overhead transparencies from CorelDRAW and other Corel products. We currently use CorelDRAW version 10 (as well as Corel Photo-Paint 10 and Corel Presentations 8)to make 35mm slides. We accept CorelDRAW .cdr and .cmx files for conversion to 35mm slides with overnight delivery by Fedex available. Please let us know which version of CorelDRAW you used to create your 35mm slides. Also note that CorelDRAW lets you have multiple pages in one .cdr file, and it is preferable to have multiple pages rather than multiple files if the file size does not get too large for you to transport it to us.

For CorelDRAW version 10, to create your page, go to the "Layout," then "Page Setup" drop-down menu. For the "Page Size" set "Landscape", "Paper" should be "Slide", with a Width of 7.33" and a Height of 11.0" and a Bleed of 0.0". For "Background", set "Solid" and choose the black colored sample. Check "Print and Export Background". Click "OK". As an alternative, download our 35mmslide.cdt template to use. When you want to save your file, go to the "File," "Save As" drop down-menu and put an "x" in the "Embed Fonts using TrueDoc" box. It is not necessary to use the advanced settings.

For CorelDRAW version 8.0, to set up your 35mm page, go to the "Layout," then "Page Setup" drop-down menu. Choose "Normal Paper." For paper choose "Custom," with width 11.00 inches and height 7.33 inches. Click on the word "Landscape" twice, as the portrait/landscape radio button set seens to be labelled incorrectly. Make sure you have the image wider than its height in the preview area. For "Background" you must uncheck "no background." Choose "Solid" and the color you want used. Also be sure that there is a check mark in "Print and export background." Then click on "OK." When you want to save your file, go to the "File," "Save As" drop down-menu and put an "x" in the "Embed Fonts using TrueDoc" box. It is not necessary to use the advanced settings.

For CorelDRAW version 7.0, to set up your 35mmm page, go to the "Layout," then "Page Setup" drop-down menu. Choose "Landscape." For paper choose "Slide." The first thing you should do is draw a black, filled rectangle the size of the page, since unexposed film is black. When you want to save your file, go to the "File," "Save As" drop down-menu and put an "x" in the "Embed Fonts using TrueDoc" box. It is not necessary to use the advanced settings.

For CorelDRAW version 5.0, to set up your 35mm page, go to the "Layout," then "Page Setup" drop-down menu. For size choose "Slide." Set the page layout to "Full Page." The first thing you should draw is a black, filled rectangle the size of the page, since unexposed film is black.

For CorelDRAW version 4.0, to set up your 35mm page, go to the "Layout," then "Page Setup" drop-down menu. For paper size choose "Custom," and set the width to "11.00 inches" and the height to "7.33 inches." Set the page layout to "Full Page." The first thing you should draw is a black, filled rectangle the size of the page, since unexposed film is black.

We have on our machine all the fonts which came with CorelDRAW! 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10 as well as with Windows, but let us know which fonts you have used, as they are not all installed at one time! You may use either Postscript or Truetype fonts.

Some digital service bureaus tell you not to use power clips, as they cannot image Corel files which use them, but PhotoGraphic Specialties has no trouble making slides with them - they image perfectly for us.

We also have some general guidelines and sample slides for you to see how you can create professional-looking slides easily.

Photographic Specialties is no longer producing slides and transparencies. I have been self-employed for 35 years, but looking forward to retirement since my wife died five years ago. With the decline of conventional photography and the recent recession, the availability of film and chemicals as well as the volume of work has declined to such an extent that it is no longer possible to have fresh chemicals to develop film. I hope that if you still need conventional slides and transparencies, you will be able to find someone who can produce them for you. Thank you for your orders over the years.
